Berlin - The emergency landing of the German government aircraft with Chancellor Angela Merkel on board Thursday night (November 29) could possibly be due to sabotage, sources claim within the security services.

The incident with the Airbus A340-300 is being investigated as a criminal act.

The Airbus A340-300 was on its way to Argentina for G20 summit while a failure occurred in the electrical system of the aircraft over Dutch Airspace. The plane had to make an emergency landing in Cologne.

Der Spiegel reports that the crew was able to contact the flight control center and plan the landing with a satellite phone on board.

The experienced pilot stated that there was an unprecedented failure of the communication system that was considered impossible under normal circumstances. The communication system of the aircraft is secured by several replacement systems.

Because no reservation device was available, Merkel and her delegation flew to Buenos Aires travels with a scheduled flight.

According to media reports, the German government plane has been suffering from technical problems lately. Last week, the German president Steinmeier was stranded in South Africa due to another system failure. Last month, the device was forced to stay on the ground in Bali because rodents had nibbled on the cabling.
