Internationalflyerz moves to new ISP

#1

Post by Red Baron » Thu Dec 29, 2016 1:08 pm

Dear all,

We have found that the forum is getting slower to load and often at times gives us unscheduled outages. We have complained to our current ISP numerous times and till today the issue has not been resolved. Therefor we have decided to run a "test site" of our forum on Afrihost. The test so far is positive with NO slow loading and absolutely NO outages. We will continue to run the tests until the first week of January 2017

Around the 15th of January we will move to Afrihost and this will put an end to the misery we have had for such a long time. Until then, we ask you to please bear with us, we are attending to the problem by doing this move. We appreciate all our members and will continue to improve this forum as best as we can, without asking for donations or sponsors.

We thank you for your continuing support,

IF Admin

Thank you for the effort Red Baron. My son-in-law runs a business off Afrihost and chose them for the same reasons that prompted you to make the move. No looking back since he moved. This is a positive step as we move into 2017.

Although things are generally much faster I do regularly get:
502 Bad Gateway - nginx

Often just a few minutes but sometimes like just now a little longer (20+ minutes).

Thanks GD, we see that too and are trying to address the issue.

We are happy though that the forum is much faster and very accessible when it is online and Tapatalk works really well so when it is down we can accept that as a tradeoff for speed and accessibility.

Will take up the issue with the ISP again :good:

Are we gonna try the Exchange Rate widget again?

Will have a look at it Raffles but tried it on another forum as well and it seems to be the connectivity to their app. It is probably such a widely used app that many many many sites connect to it that resources for sending the data can be problematic. Will keep you posted.
