No - just closer for me when I get a chance to run and hide from Mozambique for a week or two. Still gotta finish my license - then do a conversion on the Jodel, so, total waste having her in Port Alfred!! This way, I can hop off at ORTIA, bum a ride to Barragwanath, and go fly the same day... also, cheapish hangarage, and a great bunch of aviators there!

Hi all - just posting some pics of my recent adventure.

There is a Tanker that lies alongside the Powership moored in Nacala Bay, which provides power to Northern Mozambique and Zambia.

When the tanker is empty, it is replaced by another. I was tasked with assisting the transfer of equipment, spares and engine parts from the out-going tanker to the one coming in. Their aft cranes were too short to transfer directly from Ship to Ship, so I became the floating deck to which the cargo was transferred before being lifted aboard the new tanker.

Here are a sequence of pics showing the three of us all coming together off the coast of Nacala.

Yup, Moertoe - most use Liberia as a flag of convenience...

That's what I thought and I'm amazed. Liberia cleaned up its act with the airplane registry years back, meanwhile it seems that the maritime industry still gets away with murder. I know from first hand that the aviation industry got away with pretty much anything if you were "EL" registered, I bet this is the same for the maritime industry. Am I wrong?

Not really, Moertoe - it was like that in the past, but now the IMO keeps close tabs on things.

The flag of convenience is more about avoiding taxes in the home country....
