Fermented Grapes/Whiskey/Beer

#1

Postby gear up » Tue May 30, 2017 6:13 am

I thought I'd start a thread on recommended wines from the IFZ clan... we all enjoy a good glass or two and I personally have a fascination with the romance of wine, tasting, enjoying a bottle or two with good people and collecting it.

Look forward to your recommendations :thumbsup1:

Here are my first two for you to try, the red I only tasted last night and had way too much of a liking to my detriment this morning but the white is stunning. Definitely two to tango :good:

If you can get your hands on a bottle of this from Meerendal Wine Estate in Durbanville, I would highly recommend it. This is my all time favorite but it's a limited edition pressed by bikes during the 2012 Cape Epic. You don't get better, really good :Like:

Nice one Dylan. I'm sure there will be some contributors. Know a few friends who enjoy the wine tasting and collecting experience.

Can agree on the Montpellier Chardonnay, visited them last in March in Tulbach and liked it.

Although even better, just 25 km west in Riebeek-Kasteel you have Mullineux with some stunning Chenin Blancs, unfortunately also somewhat pricey.

Thought I'd change the topic and add a few more as there are some serious whiskey experts on this forum as well  and add in some beer for us summer beer tasters.

Last night, albeit freezing in JNB, I had a few of these which are amazing. Honestly the nicest beer I've tasted  :beer3:

Went to Italian restaurant Capeesh in Brooklyn, Pretoria this Tuesday and was surprised to find this Malbec from Mendoza.

When living in Bolivia years ago, Argentinian wines were great value for money, they are much less so here. Was pretty OK, but for the price we could have had much better South African wine.

Anyway the 2015 Misterio Malbec gave us a taste of Argentina again, so pretty happy with that :sparkle:

A good Argentinian Malbec always goes down well. Have had some really good ones but at the moment I've got Fairview Malbec which isn't great :bingo:

Locally the Doolhof Single Vineyard Malbec 2015 is pretty good value for money even if not the cheapest, and the winemaker and wife are awesome people :good:

Must admit I haven't tasted it, but according to the reviews I just saw, by far the best part of the wine is the label :crazy1:

:haha: fokol looks like it should be boxed and not bottled... lekker d-wyn!

I've just got back from a few too many of the average Castle Light draughts, need to tidy up now until the big C on Sunday and then rehydrate again.

There's nothing better than a few glasses of this Chivas after a long freight night!
