Vaal Dam level ...

#1

Postby Moertoe Pilut » Tue Nov 29, 2016 11:29 pm

Just out of curiosity, I would like to see in a "time frame" how much or how little the Vaal dam is increasing in volume. Whenever I can, I will post a picture of the dam when I'm over flying it. Guys like Sir Lancelot if you could post for us as well when doing the local flights? I'm doing night freight the whole of next week so I won't get any shots in. Once back on day time ops I'll post again, just to see if there's an increase. I'll ask Bretherz to post on the whatsapp group and we can use his pictures also. 407, please keep us updated on the % level of the dam??

Thanks Moertoe, will be nice to see the high level aerial pictures. For those interested, please visit http://www.reservoir.co.za and see the home page. There is a daily graph updated there on the Vaal Dam level.

Dankie Moertoe :champion:

The dam has gone up by about 10% but that has been mainly due to the release of Sterkfontein Dam water. There is still tons of rain happening around Gauteng but not in the catchment area properly

It will take a while anyways because the ground will soak up much of the rain in the beginning.

The last picture I took (part of the dam) I had to go left off track due to wx. The storm was actually sitting partially over the dam and moving towards it.

Remember that the Apartness government built the dams too big so they take longet to fill up.

Moertoe, excellent pictures. You can clearly see that the 8 river valves are still open and discharging water into a full river :good: :good:

Moertoe, that is a great picture. But more interesting is to see the blue-green algal swaths in some of the parts of the dam. Very useful indeed.

The pic isn't very clear, but it's full of algae...it doesn't look very healthy at all.
