Don't get me wrong, I love C.T.  What I don't love is walking into my room and seeing the thermometer reading is 32 degrees celsius...eish...

It is WINTER in the Cape.  We've had rain, wind and hail today.  The City Centre looks like an European city after sleet (ice rain, or something like that).

Well the bad weather has not hit us yet in Durban.  Last night was another warm one allowing you to sleep with almost no cloths on.  This morning there is signs of bad weather with a dark overcast.

No rain yet, but when i took my mother-in-law down to the medical centre for her monthly blood check, it was still shorts and T-shirt weather.  It is not cold yet, but there is a good indication that rain and winds are just over the hills.

Still trying to catch the gravy train.

Western Cape warned of bigger cold front
2013-06-03 08:22

Cape Town - More heavy rain and bitter cold is expected in the Western Cape with the arrival of a new cold front on Monday.

Die Burger reported that the cold, wet conditions over the weekend had wreaked a great deal of damage.

According to Cape Town disaster management’s Wilfred Solomons-Johannes, 2 266 people were affected by floods on the Cape Flats.

Almost 550 houses were damaged in Philippi, Bishop Lavis, Strand, Guguletu and Khayelitsha.

Roads closed

Roofs were also blown off houses in Athlone, Elsies River, Langa and Parow Valley, it was reported.

A road engineer was killed in a rock fall on the Franschhoek Pass on Sunday night. Officials were clearing the road when another rock fall occurred, in which one person was slightly injured.

The road would be closed for the time being.

Chapman’s Peak was also closed due to mud slides.

The South African Weather Service forecast snow for mountains in the Southern Cape and biting cold for the rest of the week.

Hail and thunderstorms surprised residents of Cape Town, the Boland and the Cape Winelands on Sunday.

The hail on Sunday afternoon covered Cape Town’s city centre streets.

A metre of snow

According to the weather office, the province was hit by a cold front on Saturday, which was followed by a second on Sunday afternoon with a third still on its way on Monday.

Even heavier rain could be expected in the province on Monday.

Snow fell in Sutherland over the weekend and the pass to the town was closed.

“No one can get into or out of the town and the snowflakes are still falling. It is lying quite thick here,â€

Well people, I'll tell you, the Western Cape's winter made its entrance with a HUGE Bang!!

And inspite of SA Weather's forecast of clearing up, it is raining over Signal Hill and Sea Point as I'm typing here and ouside the wind is freezing cold.

The sea is "running high".  I've watched some ships yesterday and this morning having quite a hard time in the heavy swell as they pass the Atlantic Seaboard.  I saw a huge container ship yesterday battling the swell.  She was really climbing and diving.......at times the bow was totally covered by the sea.

However, we should survive.  During the next forty days and forty nights I see some break in the weather.............if one can believe SA Weather.

So it's you, Raffles who sent us all the rain these past days - well the Bosveld sure needed it.  The hadidahs are having a feast.

Extreme weather warning for Cape Town

Cape Town -  The City of Cape Town has issued a high alert for heavy rainfall in Cape Town.

This comes after the South African Weather Service advised the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre to expect cold and wet conditions over the next few days, with heavy rain over the metropole on Thursday night into Friday morning and gale-force winds between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas.

The City’s multi-disciplinary winter task team is on high alert in the event of any localised flooding, but appeals to residents to help mitigate the potential impact by:

- staying away from beachfront areas
- maintaining a safe following distances on the roads
- ensuring that the drainage systems on their properties are working properly
- raising the floor level of their homes to minimise the risk of flooding
