A weird written article. I doubt kids will be flying an aircraft from Cape Town to Cairo. Second, explain to me how a decrease in the rdp houses budget will ensure that nobody has to cue for rdp houses. If this article is real, than their plan is a big joke.

First I have heard of it too. Not sure really what to make of it.

Maybe the "aviation" connotation is misleading because they will be studying maths, science and engineering. All good subjects not withstanding, but the aviation side seems very strange

As the above mention badly written article. Looks like the details of 3 to 5 schools/projects ascribed to one school.
See the DefenceWeb article link. Makes much more sense and starts to look sane and viable.
Would actually like to see these projects succeed.

I watched an interview with the minister of Education. The School of Aviation he said was number nine in an expected set of 26 schools of excellence. The first 8 are already up and running. The School of Aviation would be based in Kempton park and would cater for 1,300 students. All aspects of the aviation industry would be catered for, from Air Hostess, ATC, Engines (assembly and rebuild) to Instrumentation and Pilot training. Denel would be a major player in providing hands-on mentorship as would SAA. The school would cater for grades 10 through to 12.

The big drive was to take the mindset away from current school leavers that you must have a university degree to get a job. He said currently 80% of school leavers applied for some university. This was a resource area that needed to be changes so students at school would be visited by for example ATC members and shown the benefits of becoming a controller. Similarly members from other disciplines in aviation would also visit the schools and showcase what they had to offer. The basics requirements of any aviation discipline would not be compromised, so if you needed maths and science, those requirements would not be compromised.

Another school he added was the School of Sport, where training would take place on an athletic level. This is where the next Olympic teams could be picked from.

My 2c worth.
