Dodging the Storms into FABL

Posted here on behalf of Capt. Andy Ackerman taken on the decent into FABL 27 January 2017 in ZS-TGB. Quite a bit of work to get around the storms and on to finals.

Ask what approach he flew here. From the above pics he seems to be off to the west before positioning onto final RWY20.... how did he get below over there ??

I think Gear Up and Co flew a serious visual approach but hopefully he can give some clarity on what they actually did fly

Had to fly around the storm to the west which stretched all the way over the Drakensburg from the East, descend around it in between gaps staying above MSA and then once we were visual we had to drop out of the sky as we were quite high and into Bloem.

It was a race against the storm as when we touched down on RNY02, the storm was touching the threshold of RNY20 so we just made it. Our plan with ATC if it beat us was an immediate left turn and then off to Kimberly or back to JNB.

Always fun and ATC are always so helpful as well.

Ok, I'm off to work again now :thumbsup1:

Haha, okay I see that high left base pic now makes sense. Fun and games.
