What's happening to Manston Airport?

#1

Post by Moertoe Pilut » Fri Jan 01, 2016 2:23 pm

I know Manston Airport closed on the 15th of May 2014 and since than there has been a lot of talk/rumours about the airport, ranging from re-opening to turning it into a park etc. Question is how can they "close" the airport? I thought Manston was a joint civil and RAF Air Base?

I used to fly out of Manston frequently and have to say it was a great airport. I remember the layovers we had in a hotel called Pegwell Bay fondly. I bet Manston could still be a great "cargo hub"... What say bmused?

There is a whole bunch of interesting stuff on the Supporters of Manston Airport website. Just started going through some of it now. Makes for interesting reading.

Thanks for that link 407  I certainly hope that they will put Manston Airport back into service. For those of you who might ever plan on visiting the Kent area, I suggest staying at the Pegwell Bay Hotel:

Make sure to visit the pub "The Sir Stanley Gray" across the street. If memory serves me well, there was a tunnel from the hotel to the pub.
