Radar out FAJA FIR

#1

Postby Moertoe Pilut » Thu Feb 04, 2016 4:59 am

I was told the whole of FAJA radar was out last night. FACA was fully operational though. When entering EGTIL aren't they supposed to tell me "radar contact" instead of "under radar control"? We never got advised "radar contact" until I asked....

Radar contact simply means he sees you. Under radar control means ....hey tjom expect to be sent all over the place.... ie expect vectoring.

Under radar control means I'm not responsible for terrain clearance... Under radar control I am. Not telling me or not cancelling the "under radar control" to "Radar Contact" is a concern to me. I should at least know when I'm on my own when it comes to terrain clearance.

Yes, anytime you receive vectors from ATC, then ATC is responsible for terrain clearance. But that does not stop you from accepting an unsafe vector...if you think its unsafe. The pilot is always ultimately responsible for the safety of the aircraft... ie, be aware boet!!

Flying in the USA recently, dunno what they would do without radar. Ground all flights I guess.
