Seattle, Anchorage and colder places

#1

Post by thabo » Wed Nov 15, 2017 5:13 am

I will possibly be flying on Sat night to Seattle for a few meetings with a customer.

After that I'll be flying up to Anchorage and a few other towns in Alaska in the new Alaska Air converted 737-700 freighter.

Should be back home by Friday afternoon, but don't yet know how long I'll be in Seattle or Alaska.

Any must-sees if I have a chance?

Plans have changed a bit... Currently they are that I'll be going to support c check in OKC at end of Dec - it's the first c check for our 737-700bdsf so both my management and Alaskan management want someone who knows the plane on site.
Once the check is underway I'll go over to Seattle for a few days and then fly with them up to anchorage and then on to outlying villages in their delivery/collection route. Then back to OKC for end of c check.
Should be away for 3 weeks

Not much kosher food to be found in OKC so I'll have to spend my time bass fishing... Could be a lot worse

Getting ready for my trip. Will be flying to OKC Sunday night. There till Thurs evening. Hope to do some bass fishing while in the area. In Seattle till Saturday night then on to anchorage. All day Sunday in ANC and flying with the cargo guys. Back to Seattle Monday morning and then on to Oklahoma. Leave OKC Wednesday afternoon, back home Thursday afternoon.

Cut down from the 3 weeks I mentioned above but going to be hectic

I'll try post photos as I go.

Has been an incredible week and a half.

Spent 4 days in Oklahoma city at AAR maintenance facility.

Then off to Seattle for 4 meetings Friday morning.

Saturday night I flew to Anchorage and was supposed to fly in the jump-seat to Bethel and Nome but could not as according to the FAA my facial hair is not compatible with the O2 masks in the supernumeraries region and they do not differentiate between the 2 sections. Instead I drove down to Portage along the Seward Highway. Along the way we visited a wildlife refuge and took a few photos.

Monday was fly-day ... back to Oklahoma.

Today I went bass fishing - unsuccessfully.

Tomorrow I head home.

A few photos...

The Northern range at sunrise (about 10:30am).

The Chugach mountain range.

Tidal bore in turnagain arm - ice floes floating by. The speed is incredible... It's so fast that is you fell in you would be unable to swim against it (8-10km/h).

Thabo, brilliant pictures :yeeha:

Alaska is definitely on my bucket list. Not sure what it is about it that draws me to it, but there is just something amazing about what I have seen

Sorry you couldn't get the jump-seat as that should have been a fantastic experience flying into those places. Maybe next time :good:

So I take it the converted B737 project is/has gone well?
