FAGM - VG - Germiston - FAGM - Springs - FAHG - VG - FAGM

Right then, a few pictures from various capturing devices for this trip report. Work required us to undertake an assessment of rivers in the Barrage catchment.

So, arrived early at FAGM to beat the traffic and was presented with a helipad still in shadows as the sun had just started to peak itself over the horizon. That being assessed, I decided that coffee was the order of the day and so headed up to the coffee shop at Henley Air and awaited the sun to warm things up.

Image

A very nice setup they have at Henley Air. Proud to see that most of the pictures on display have been taken by myself.

Image

Slowly things started to warm up and the helipad began to come to life. This picture taken from upstairs at the coffee shop out into the hangar.

Our chariot for today's flight was bog standard Bell 407 ZS-RTF but she is a very nice machine to fly. Here she too is having a very cold bath in the shadow of the hangar before being sent out to the warmth of the helipad.

Image

Picture taken of the Hobbs meter in the front where the battery is kept to make sure all hours are properly accounted for. As you can see, she has few hours to her name.

Pre-flight checks done we were just about to start-up when Netcare got airborne just in front of us. You could feel the thumping from those blades reverberate through RTF.

Image

We got airborne north of Rwy 29 and crossed outbound to the south at 6,000ft or below. Weather was prefect for flying although indications were that the wind would get stronger during the morning. Flight down to Vereeniging was uneventful and we passed to the east of Vereeniging airfield with a C210 doing circuits. The radio was extremely busy on 125.6 with just about everybody and their dog heading for the Nampo exhibition in the Free State.

Here we are on short finals for Vereeniging. Shutdown followed and the the right rear door taken off.

Image

My one colleague who has to sit next to the open door was well kitted out with thermal underwear, two jackets and a face scarf. But the cool thing was that he had a camera mounted to his cap. Will get some pics from that at a later stage.

The actual work was quite intensive and we used both a Garmin GPS and an iPad with Google Earth for navigation to 39 sites on the Klip River and Blesbokspruit.

Image

But as always, you can't pass up the opportunity of getting some cool pictures of the work being done. So, got dropped off in the veld and took a few pictures of RTF in action.

But all too soon, the flying had to come to an end and we headed back to FAGM. Here on very short finals for the pad.

Until next time ...

Awesome pics, no one said you can't have fun while working :goodpost:

Was well worth it getting out for some pics, choppers look much better out in the 'wild' than at airports :Like:

What did the hobbs meter say when back?

You noticed :good:

Since I don't have a Comm, whenever we fly with pacs for work I have to fly left seat with a Comm pilot in the right seat. It all has to do with insurance etc. on a charter flight.

If there are no pacs I fly right seat :thumbsup1:

Managed to get hold of the video from the CapCam view and here are a few screenshots from it.

Just airborne out of Vereeniging and routing south along the Vaal River in an easterly direction, here is New Vaal Colliery active in the background.

Image

Turning overhead Germiston Lake for left base East of Rwy 17 at FAGM.

Image

Short finals for the HenleyPad with Rwy 17 at FAGM active.

Off topic, did you notice all the algae at the Vaal Dam?

Nope, we didn't get out that far on this trip. Hopefully by end June we will get there :thumbsup1:
