Stupendous pictures as always GD. Really cool to see some interesting stuff. Really like the Pilatus jet with the "glass" door

When you look back on this thread the trip really did provide you with some great pictures for a memorable album. Thank you for sharing indeed :champion:

GD I may be an armchair passenger, but your pictures and commentary gives an insight into European airports and airspace.

Thank you. :thanx:

Great pics GD! Did you finally meet up with your suitcase, or did KLM (Keep Looking Motherf*cker) loose it again? They've managed to loose a few of mine before. That Liberian Yak looks in fine shape for a Liberian registered airplane, although this airplane must have been there for quite some years as E-L is finished, they re-did the registry and some compliance with ICAO ( ) and are now something A(X)-

They manage to get the suitcase to me four days later, which fitted great with my departure from Spain
A8- is the new Liberia prefix, not as used for dubious operations as the EL- one was in the good old days it seems.

Saturday 28th May was Champions League day. As always lots of bizjets expected in connection with these sort of events. Linate has limited space but we expected lots of drop off anyway. Unfortunately many went directly into the other North Italian airports that was used to help accommodate the volume. So instead of the 150-200 we hoped for we only saw around 70.

Some nice ones though, here Moldovan ER-KKL Embraer Legacy 650

Citation VII is a model that haven't seen much use in Africa, but look great IMHO, CS-DVN Cessna 650 Citation VII
ImageCS-DVN_28May16-LIN by Aviation Adventures South Africa, on Flickr

Noticing that thing were not going according to plan we made a short visit to Bergamo where around 10 bizjets were parked so they couldn't really be photographed. Bergamo was also used for some fan charters, here EC-MFB Airbus A340-313 of Plus Ultra a company I had never heard of.

Back at Linate Hawker 4000 I-MPGA was amoung the afternoon arrivals

To fill the void between the missing biz movements we had Alitalia, here EI-DSW Airbus A320-216 in special colours

When I saw a due list for Linate Sunday I almost regretted I was leaving early to Amsterdam, many of the aircraft that went elsewhere on the Saturday was due into Linate for pick-ups. Luckily for me it was raining in Linate and there was a Catalina flight waiting for me in The Netherlands.

EI-DTO Airbus A320-216 Alitalia was the chariot from Linate to Amsterdam

Got my car and went straight up to Lelystad where if all was good the Catalina was waiting, Imagine my relief when PH-PBY PBY-5A Catalina was seen taxiing in

After a briefing we were good to go, here our captain getting in from above

We used a more conventional method
ImagePH-PBY-3_29May16-LEY by Aviation Adventures South Africa, on Flickr

Seating is arranged club style with 8 seats behind the cockpit and 8 seats between the wing and observation bubbles. Here our FA Daisy (Transavia) with a few of the guests. Of the 14 pax two had serviced on Catalinas with the Dutch Navy in Far East Asia in the 50s and 60s. No points for guessing which one of these.

We made a total of three touch and goes on the water, our planed fast runs on the water was made complicated by waves. If you look closely you see the spay to the far left (was sitting in the front cabin at the time).
ImagePH-PBY-11_29May16-LEY by Aviation Adventures South Africa, on Flickr

On one of the touch and goes we tried with wingtip floats down, again not ideal due waves, and I was sitting in the middle at the time

Another view from the observation bubble
ImagePH-PBY-7_29May16-LEY by Aviation Adventures South Africa, on Flickr

After an absolute awesome flight is was time to admire some of the other classics at the Aviodome, PH-FHF Fokker F.27 was doing scenicflight here some years back.

Many more planes in the museum, but wont bore you with that. Last pics is of one of two Blackshape Prime in fake Dutch Air Force colours from a based flying school that offers an air combat experience.

Very happy I made this one, who knows how long these flights will continue with enemies like cost and regulation :surrender:

Anyway. after the Catalina experience my last two days went mainly with shopping, but my hotel was conveniently located to make regular visits to Schiphol East :coffee:

Among the visitors the first day was M-IBID Global 5000

On the second day two this big boy popped in - N102BG Gulfstream G650

Time to go back to RSA, next to my gate (with 13 year old Boeing 777-200 PH-BQB) was this fancy looking Singapore machine - 9V-SMA Airbus A350-941

Unexpected trip to Europe coming up, not much in the sense of fun flights this time so will just add it to the trip report from earlier this year.
I am sure I will manage to take a photo or 10 :faceplant:

Itinerary as booked:
09Dec16 JNB-AMS 2359-1020+1 KL0592 B773
10Dec16 AMS-BLL 1230-1335 KL1345 FK70

14Dec16 BLL-AMS 1020-1135 KL1342 E190
14Dec16 AMS-CDG 1350-1505 AF1641 A318
14Dec16 CDG-VIE 1725-1920 AF1238 A320

19Dec16 VIE-CDG 1505-1710 AF1739 A320
19Dec16 CDG-AMS 1750-1910 AF1440 A320
20Dec16 AMS-JNB 1015-2205 KLM0591 B772

No new types or airports sadly, but will be good to get an extra Fokker 70 flight before they are all gone, and will be my first flight on a KLM 777-300.

Seem PH-BVK 777-300ER is standing at the gate at Schiphol ready to go and pick me up tonight. Was obviously hoping for PH-BVA (below) but still first KLM 77W flight for me.

Still planed as a Fokker 70. Crossing fingers as I see most days flight is operated by Embraer 190.

Right, finally a little from my recent Euro trip :bingo:

Started off a late Friday evening at Jo'burg to catch PH-BVK Boeing 777-306(ER) of KLM for a long uneventful night flight to Amsterdam. My first flight on KLM 777-300, and must say has the worst economy seats I can remember having put my bum in :negative:
ImagePH-BVK_09Dec16-FAOR by Aviation Adventures South Africa, on Flickr

After a coffee at Schiphol we went onto Billund (Moertoes (and Raffles??) old stomping ground) near my parents place in Denmark. Flight as planned with a lovely Fokker 70 KLM-Cityhopper. Unfortunately PH-KZN was used, the only currently active KLM Fk70 I had been on before.

Couple of ATRs at Nordic Aviation Capital still wearing their exotic colours of former operators, including OY-PCB ATR 42-512 formerly known as HK-4748 with Colombian operater SATENA.
ImageOY-PCB_10Dec16-EKBL by Aviation Adventures South Africa, on Flickr

And OY-CRV ATR 72-500 formerly HS-KAF with Kan Air in Thailand.

Then it was time to relax and eat with the oldies.

Always a pleasure reading your posts GD and welcome back, it's been a while :good:

What was the issue with the bad seats? Just an old aerie that hasn't been upgraded yet?

Nice pics GD, did you get the inside of the Fokker?

Economy usually sucks unless you can get the emergency exit seats, or a window seat and the seat next to you is vacant in one of those two-seat rows
